The
Book of Common Prayer
Correct
Actually the question really should be when was the first
Order of Holy Communion printed in English - not the entire
Book of Common Prayer but just the Communion Service.
The first printing in English of the Communion service was
soon after the death of Henry VIII when the Convocation and
Parlement (note that the Anglican Church then as now, is the
official State Church and as such Parlement had a hand in how
the Church was run) decreed that communion was to be
administered in both kinds - wine in addition to the usual
bread.
A good explanation of this plus the complete copy of the first
English "Order for Communion, 1548" can be found at
Anglican.org. (Because this is an external link you will
